Prospective Board Member Application
This application allows the Edina ABC Foundation (Edina ABC) Board of Directors to select new Board Members who best fit the needs of the Edina ABC Board. Before applying, please read the information below.
Background: Edina ABC is a local chapter of the national A Better Chance (ABC) program and has been in operation since 1972. We provide highly motivated, academically successful middle and junior high school students of color with the opportunity for an excellent high school education. Our students come from families with limited income who live in areas without high performing high schools, which limits their access to a rigorous college-preparatory education. While in the Edina ABC program our students live in a house in Edina together with resident staff and attend Edina High School. 100% of our students go on to college, and in 2005 we became the first ABC program of our kind to graduate 100 students.
Board Member Expectations:
Support the mission and values of Edina ABC
Work collaboratively as part of a hands-on team with common goals
Use skills and experience for the benefit of Edina ABC
Prepare for and participate actively in monthly board meetings, our annual gala, and other fundraisers, events and projects, at an average of 5-10 hours per month depending on events and activities
Attend at least 2/3 of all board meetings annually
Stay informed about Edina ABC goals, operations, and needs
Exercise good judgment and oversight to ensure that Edina ABC is financially and programmatically sound and always operating in the best interest of our students
Meet minimum expectations for participation in fundraising and/or donations
Who We’re Looking For: The Edina ABC Board values diversity among its members, including diversity in background and personal and professional skills and experience. We are looking for Board Members who will be engaged and who have the time and commitment to be effective stewards of Edina ABC’s program, resources, and mission. Our specific needs in terms of skills and experience change from time to time depending on current Board composition.
